Brain Cancer

What is Brain Cancer?

Brain cancer/tumor are abnormal growth of cells in brain. Cancerous cells grow and they overpower healthy cells by taking nutrients from body , form a tumor and interferes with brain functions in sensation , memory. The cause for change for normal cells to caner is sometimes due to hereditary. Common symptoms are nausea , vomiting, blurry vision, change in memory or speech, mental changes, loss of balance, weakness or paralysis in part of body. Test to detect brain cancer is CT-scan and MRI. There are many types of brain tumors and grouped into 2 main types:- 1)Benign- they are slow and do not spread. Ex-meningiomas, neuromas, pituitary tumor, craniopharyngiomas. 2)Malignant- they are cancerous and spread in other parts of brain. Ex- astrocytomas, glioblastomas, mixed gliomas.

Our unique ayurvedic combinations and dietary recommendations are quite effective and provide desirable recovery in afflicted patients.

Herbal Extracts

The combination of anti cancerous herbs mentioned in Ayurveda in Charak Samhita, Chakradatam, Shushurat Samhita. The herbs are collected keeping in mind the spiritual guidelines mentioned in ancient ayurvedic texts, extracts are collected and processed, preserving essence in proper form to make them ingestible and quick acting and easy to consume as the dosage decreases.

Our standardized extract based herbal medications shall, primarily contain the following herbs:

  • Manjistha
  • Daruharidra
  • Kachner
  • Haridra
  • Bamboo
  • Musali
  • Amalaki
  • Hareetaki
  • Baheeda
  • Wheat leaves etc.

MINERALS

Various minerals are known to increase the activity of herbs in the body increasing the speed of action of herbs manifolds. In addition to this the minerals are known to improve the immune defenses of the body making them more capable of differentiating between useful cells of the body and harmful cells for the body so that the cells which are non beneficial for the body are engulfed.

Some of the metallic preparations recommendable in your patient will be:

  • Shilajeet
  • Pearl
  • Coral compound
  • Gorochan etc.

METALLIC COMBINATIONS

Gold, sliver, tin and other metals have since times been used in the form of their organometallic compounds in various kinds of treatment with great success. The best part of the usage of metallic combinations is due to their 'AHUKARI' effect. By ashukari it is meant that the thing which is very quick acting and the metallic preparations act right from the very first dosage which is very helpful in combating quickly spreading diseases. The metals have a property that they selectively scavange all kinds of cells which are cancerous. i.e. they don't harm the normal helpful cells( Unlike chemotherapy which harms both the cells equally).

Some of the metallic preparations recommendable in your patient will be:

  • Swarna Wasant malti Rasam
  • Ratnakar Rasam
  • Rajat Bhasma
  • Tapyaadi loham brihat (with silver)
  • Wyadi haran Rasam
  • Brihat watt chintamani rasam etc.

Ayurvedic Aspect of Carcinoma

As far as ayurveda is concerned, it believes in the doctorine of Dhatus. The dhatus are seven in number:

  • Rasa Dhatu( Lymph)
  • Rakat Dhatu (Blood)
  • Masam dhatu (Skin and Muscles)
  • Meda Dhatu (Body fat)
  • Aasti Dhatu (Bone)
  • Majja Dhatu ( Bone Marrow)
  • Shukra Dhatu etc.

It is believed that daily when we take meals the nourishment gradually travels from one dhatu to the other proceeding dhatu and all the dhatus are hence nourished.

One dhatu is connected to the next dhatu by micro channels known as srotasam

Now when a person develops cancer, it is the next adjacent dhatu which is actually having problems and is vitiated. The reason is that the micro channels after the said dhatu which connect one dhatu to the other dhatu gets blocked and the excess of nutrition starts increasing one type of cells which are being produced by the preceding Dhatu

Now for curing this condition, one has to work on two levels:

a) Purifying the vitiated Dhatu (Working on the cells, preventing the excessive division of cells, and preventing the formation of cancerous cells and increasing the scavenging process for the already deposited cancerous cells)

b) Purifying the blocked micro channels after vitiated Dhatu, so that only the required nutrition is provided. Once it is purified, it stops the excessive flow of unwanted nutrients to the cancer site so that the cancer cells are deprived of unnecessary nutrition, leading to their gradual removal from the body.

Below Mentioned is our module of treatment which we follow in each cancer patient:

No cell in the body is cancerous and at the same time each cell in the body is having the capability of turning into a cancerous cell. Traditional Indian therapies, Ayurveda, has a unique vision concerning the mechanism that prevents the change of a normal cell into cancerous cell, growth of cancer cells in the human body. However when this mechanism is disturbed, that makes the body susceptible to development of various kinds of cancers.

  • Disturbance in Homeostasis -Primary Factor
  • Harmful Immunomodulations - Secondary Factor
  • Doshic types of Cancer and Diversification
  • Diversification of Cancer by Doshic Location
  • Conclusion

Disturbance in Homeostasis as a Primary Factor Ayurveda states in CarakaSamhita, Sutrasthana, Chapter 1, 57 that the cause of all pathology in the body is due to the three Dosha, Vata, Pitta and Kapha (Tridosha).

“VATA PITTA KAPHA CHAUKTAM SHARIRA DOSHA SANGRAHAM”

Doshas can more precisely be explained as body chemicals. Ie just like we get various parameters like Hb, TLC, Bilirubin, etc. checked in the modern world, the ancients had clubbed all these chemicals into three prime groups: -VayuGrouup of chemicals (Vata) -Pitta Group of Chemicals (Pitta) -Kapha group of chemicals (Kapha)

According to Ayurvedic theory the three doshas are responsible to maintain a stable equilibrium in physiology (i.e. when these remain in their proper levels in the body they are responsible for carrying out of all the body process in normal way and in promoting good health) and the homeostasis is maintained.

The inability of the body to maintain homeostasis is a primary indication of poor health as the organism is not able to adapt to internal or external stimuli. This inability to respond indicates poor health from the lack of functional reaction to internal and external stimulus. The result of this reduced response is either an inappropriate immune response (auto-immune) or little to no immune response (inadequate or suppressed immune response). Thus the first very base towards the contributing factors responsible for the transition of normal cells to cancerous cells is the disturbance in the levels of the tridoshas i.e.

VITIATION OF VATA
VITIATION OF PITTA
VITIATION OF KAPHA

It can be one, any two or three of them completely imbalanced which form the very base of this disease.

Additionally, in Ayurvedic thought the concept of ingested matter (liquid or solid) that is absorbed into the circulation which contributes to the impairment of normal homeostasis. The Ayurvedic term for this non-assimilated / non-eliminated matter which is circulating with the blood isaama.

“Jatharanalayamdorballayatam,
Vipakvamastuyorasam
SeahAAmSangakyoDehayam,
SarvaDoshamPrakopam.”

The theory states that the accumulation of this non-digested matter prevents correct dosha function or homeostasis. This Aam can accumulate at various places in the body causing disease at the corresponding sites. This accumulation process is slow and allows for non-digested matter to be deposited at any location of the organism by the circulatory system.

Given the above conclusion the result of limited or inhibited homeostasis would be an internal environment conducive to the growth of cancer cells. In a normal homeostasis the normal cells would never had changed into cancer cells and cancer cells would not be allowed to propagate due to the inherent capacity of homeostasis to adapt and adjust to variant factors. Once this capacity is compromised cancer cells are no longer held in check and proliferation is possible. This process is accelerated by the physical presence of non-digested matter as it further reduces communication between systems and functions of the organism.

Harmful Immunomodulations Secondary Factor

Ayurveda states that the capacity to respond to stress factors, physical and mental, are related to the inherent strength of the individual. This concept in Ayurveda is represented by the term Baala. There are two kinds of Baala, inherent and developed. This idea of inherent strength is modified by lifestyle and the aging process.

Another primary idea in Ayurvedic thought is that of a primordial essence that supports the inherent strength of the person. This concept, Ojas, is a form of refined cellular nutrient extract that is created by the correct metabolism of food and its resulting refinement through various systems and enzyme actions, mainly on a cellular level.

Ras ------> Rakatam ------> Masam ------> Medam ------> Aasti ------> Majja------> Shukram ------> Oojam (Immune system is a part of Oojam/Ojas)

It is indicated that Ojas is also of two kinds, inherent and developed. This theory is worthy of note as Ojas is said to support the primary strength, Baala, as well as primary structures of the organism through supporting cellular growth and function. There is no direct relationship to an equivalent concept in modern anatomy and physiology. The refined cellular nutrient extract can be modified by lifestyle and the aging process.

Once the Dhatus of the body are not being formed in a proper way or once there is a Dushti in the channels connecting one dhatu to the other , that dhatu becomes more prone to the accumulation of AAma at it’s site making it more prone to the development and growth of cancer cells.

At the same time since the nutrition is consumed primarily by the cancer cells, less of Oja is formed, which would otherwise had checked the growth of cancer cells. Due to the reduce levels of oja, the immune system is not able to attack the cancer cells checking their growth at the very beginning.

Rather it becomes a vicious cycle, that the more the development of cancer cells, the lesser the nutrition going to Ojas formation, the lesser the ability of the body to fight the growth of these cells.

Doshic types of Cancer and Diversification

According to Ayurveda pathologies are caused by dosha. The subsequent development of symptom manifestation follows the traits and attributes of the causal dosha. Cancer, like other diseases difficult to treat, is often considered to be a disease of all three doshas together. In Ayurveda this is reflected as a derangement of all three dosha.i.e. a derangement in many kinds of body chemicals at the same time.

In spite of the concept of multiple management problems of homeostasis, Ayurveda generally considers pathology as originating from one of the three doshas.

SINCE EACH KIND OF DOSHA GIVES PARTICUAR TYPES OF SIGNS/SYMPTOMS IN THE BODY WHEN IT IS VITIATED (WHEN IT’S LEVEL IS DISTURBED), SO AN EXPERIENCED PHYSICIAN CAN JUDGE THE CONCERNED DOSHA RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PARTICULAR TYPE OFCANCER.

This is useful in both diagnosis and treatment as it becomes possible to identify the disruption of homeostasis. Once the functional aspect of system communication can be identified, individualized treatment modularity can be developed and implemented.

Given this schematic of dosha involvement we can judge, according to Ayurveda, the difficultly in treating the cancer. For example, the involvement of all three dosha would indicate a very difficult or impossible pathology to care. Two of the doshas involved would indicate a difficult case of cancer to care, but with greatly improved chances of success intreatment. One dosha alone as the sole cause and manifesting pathology would be, for cancer, possible to care, or at least treatable to some degree. Thus, the number of dosha involved in the pathology directly decreases the likelihood of success in treatment. aspect would relate to Vatadosha the intelligent principle of homeostasis that controls communication, movement and coordination. Cancer that is metabolic, enzymatic, and evolves at a moderate rate would relate to Pitta dosha the intelligent principle of homeostasis that controls metabolism and transformation. Cancer that is slow to evolve, manifests as tumors or as congestive disorders would relate to Kaphadosha the intelligent principle of homeostasis that controls lubrication and structure. Cancer that incorporates two or three of the above indications demonstrates the number of doshas involved in the pathology. According to Ayurveda the greater number of combined dosha symptoms the greater the difficulty in diagnosis and treatment. 4. Diversification ofCancer by Doshic Location Since Doshas can be compared to body chemicals, so as in the body a particular body chemical is in abundance at a particular site, e.g. Bile is accumulated in the liver so liver is the organ for this body chcemical. Similar for Vata, Pitta and Kapha group of chemicals, there are proper sites in the body where these chemicals are in abundance. According to Ayurveda Vatadosha controls the functions at the following locations : colon, urinary bladder, bones, lungs, skin, ears, brain. According to Ayurveda Pitta dosha controls the functions at the following locations : small intestine, liver, gall bladder, heart, pancreas, blood (hemoglobin), endocrine glands, uterus, stomach, sweat glands, skin, eyes, brain. According to Ayurveda Kaphadosha controls the functions at the following locations : lungs, stomach, pancreas, testicles, ovaries, lymphatic tissue (including mammary tissue), kidneys, blood (plasma), sweat glands, skin, mouth and throat, bone marrow, brain. Hence cancers related to these organs can be checked for the vitiation of Vata,Pitta or Kapha. 5. Conclusion The cancer as per Ayurveda can be concluded as a result of the following process: a) Vitiation of Doshas (Vatta, Pitta and Kapha)

b) Formation of AAm
c) Srotodushti (Disturbance of microcirculation of the body)
d) OjaKshayam (Decreased immunity due to various factors)
e) Decreased Aagni.

The resulting vision of Ayurvedic pathology offers the possibility to develop individualized treatment modules according to causal factors. The causal factor will be one of the three dosha that is prevented from correct functional communication due to lifestyle habits, diet, secondary effects of medication, environmental chemicals, or psychosomatic reasons that have not been addressed in this paper. The possible causes for the disruption of dosha function are unlimited. If identified the causes should be removed, and homeostasis should be re-established. Through identification of causal factors that inhibit immune response treatments that re-establish homeostasis would also allow the innate power (Baala) of immunity to manifest on a general level. If the innate strength is sufficient then refined cellular nutrient extract (Ojas) would permit and support correct cellular functional communication. The enzyme activity (Agni) that is present in all cellular functions would then be stimulated to remove any non-digested substances(AAm) that had accumulated through time and deposited throughout the tissues by the circulatory system. This combined activity would permit an increase in the cancer cell suppression mechanisms resulting in the reduction of cancer cells and their proliferation, Thus forming the very base of cancer treatment in Ayurveda. .
